The coded welder is responsible for being the figure head of the technicians’ team, within Manufacturing when it comes to confirmation of P&ID drawings for fabrication, assembling, testing, and installing on current RT projects including the future assembly/modifications of the RT7000 as well as supporting and liaising with manufacturing engineers in accordance with current HSE and ISO regulations and legislations.

Cooperating with the technology and manufacturing engineers to continually drive our engineering program and continual improvement ethos. Given the skills and trade knowledge of the coded welder, they will be the point of contact with regards to any issues or questions with regards to fabrication activities, advise and coordinate accordingly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with the CAD team to ensure released drawings match and are compatible with current orientations of the BETA Plant.
  • Coaching and Mentoring of the fellow technicians to aid improving their skill set and increasing the skill and technical knowledge of the Technicians team.
  • Working with the engineers to develop an easy to assemble, modular design for the RT7000 with the goal of reducing assembly time and improving user experience during maintenance. Additionally, based on experience, suggest changes to mechanical equipment to improve plant safety, efficiency and reliability.
  • Where necessary, assessing and writing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for the task.
  • Assembly installation planning to ensure machines are built to specification and a high standard quality finish.
  • Working with the engineers to develop an easy to assemble, modular design for the RT7000 with the goal of reducing assembly time and improving user experience during maintenance. Additionally, based on experience, suggest changes to mechanical equipment to improve plant safety, efficiency and reliability.
  • Tidiness and cleanliness of worksite conditions including minimising wastage in all areas of work.
  • Mentor Apprentices in conjunction with Supervisors.
  • Participate in the company’s Quality, CSR, H&S and 7S programs to maintain a safe & professional environment for the company to operate within.
  • Co-Ordinating with Supply Chain ensuring and maintaining a balance of required consumable stock, both at hand and held within stores throughout RT locations.

Necessary Skills – Essential

  • Qualified HNC, C&G, B-TECH in Welding and Fabrication or equivalent level of experience and/or qualification such as an apprenticeship.
  • Coded welding pipework qualifications, in both Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel.
  • Basic workshop skills including, fabricating and machining.
  • Be able to read 2D and 3D drawings, working from drawings.
  • Mig, Tig, Arc welding trained,
  • Team player able to support other disciplines if required.
  • Skilled and confident communicator who can clearly present ideas and solutions
  • Demonstrable strong health and safety awareness.
  • Highly organised with a strong attention to detail, self-motivated and disciplined.
  • High level of computer literacy, working knowledge of MS Office.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with flow, temperature and pressure instrumentation.
  • IOSH Working Safely.
  • Forklift and crane licence.
  • Drivers’ licence.
  • Demonstrable competence in a wide range of engineering skills and disciplines including pumps, pneumatics, pipework and instrumentation.
