The ATEX Electro-Mechanical Technician is responsible for supervising the team of Technicians to assemble, install, test the process systems on the RT7000, BETA Plant, various R&D test rigs with regards to ATEX components. You will be responsible for legal compliance and working with our suppliers and engineers to optimise the design for manufacture and testing of the electrical and mechanical components and their supporting systems and documentation. Additionally, you will assist in developing the work instructions, procedures and permits associated with both the manufacturing and site facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assembly installation planning to ensure machines are built to specification and a high standard quality finish.
  • Assist in the control panel layout, design, installation, inspection and testing and commissioning.
  • Working with the EC&I Engineers to develop an easy to assemble, modular control and power electronics system for the RT7000 with the goal of reducing assembly time and improving user experience during maintenance. Additionally, based on experience, suggesting changes to EC&I equipment to improve plant safety, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Working with the engineers to develop an easy to assemble, modular design for the RT7000 with the goal of reducing assembly time and improving user experience during maintenance. Additionally, based on experience, suggest changes to mechanical equipment to improve plant safety, efficiency and reliability.
  • Assisting with design of-, and being responsible for assembly installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of process components.
  • Developing a test program to ensure compliance with code and supporting the quality assurance agenda and ensuring that the required records are kept up to date to satisfy the requirements of legislation.
  • Participate in failure investigations and report back reliability issues within the plants.
  • Setting up the system to ensure team members properly document and accurately report all maintenance, repairs, overhauls, adjustments, and inspections; and ensuring the integrity of work procedures including permits to work, work instructions, work orders.
  • Installation, inspection, and maintenance of certified equipment including rotating equipment such as pumps and compressors, valves, instruments etc. in hazardous and ATEX rated areas. Where necessary, assessing and writing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for the task.
  • Participate in failure investigations and report back reliability issues within the plants.
  • Assisting with design of-, and being responsible for installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of- control systems, power supplies, electrical distribution switch gear and instrumentation.
  • Developing a test program to ensure compliance with code and supporting the quality assurance agenda and ensuring that the required records are kept up to date to satisfy the requirements of legislation.
  • Maintain the proper condition of tools, test equipment and workshop equipment, and developing the systems to ensure that team members are compliant.
  • Tidiness and cleanliness of worksite conditions including minimising wastage.
  • Development of  technicians’ training plans and appraisals, and mentor apprentices.
  • In conjunction with your supervisor, progress and complete training plans as identified by your annual appraisal and competency matrix.
  • Participate in the company’s Quality, CSR, H&S and 7S programs to maintain a safe & professional environment for the company to operate within.
  • Installation, inspection and maintenance of certified mechanical equipment including pumps, compressors, valves, gearboxes, pipe work, tanks, pressure vessels, pneumatic systems etc in hazardous areas. Where necessary, assessing and writing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for the task.
  • Participate in failure investigations and report back reliability issues within the plants.

Necessary Skills – Essential

  • Experience in supervising installations and small teams.
  • ATEX Qualification (Ex01-04, minimum of 4 years’ experience).
  • Excellent fault finding and diagnostic skills, on a wide range of plant and equipment.
  • Five years’ experience in a mature OEM production environment, or in oil and gas.
  • Qualified HNC, C&G, B-TECH in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent level of experience and/or qualification such as an apprenticeship.
  • City and Guilds 2391, inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations
  • C&G 2394 /2395 Qualification or Part P or be able demonstrate knowledge in this area
  • C&G 2365 Qualification or equivalent
  • City and Guilds 2360 part 3, installation work and regulations
  • Approved Electrical Installer Qualification has completed an electrical Apprenticeship
  • Field wiring installations and control systems wiring.
  • Electrical  and/or Mechanical fittings.
  • Be able to read 2D, 3D, electrical and P&ID drawings, and work from such drawings.
  • Team player able to support other disciplines if required.
  • Skilled and confident communicator who can clearly present ideas and solutions
  • Demonstrable and mentor strong health and safety awareness.
  • Highly organised with a strong attention to detail, self-motivated and disciplined.
  • High level of computer literacy, working knowledge of MS Office.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • City and Guilds 2382, 18th edition wiring regulations.
  • Demonstrable competence in a wide range of engineering skills and disciplines including pumps, pneumatics, pipework and instrumentation.
  • Forklift and Crane licence.
  • Rigging, slinging, welding, abrasive wheels.
  • Experience with flow, temperature and pressure instrumentation.
  • IOSH Working Safely.
  • ONC electrical/electronic minimum.
  • PLC programming and interrogation.
  • High current power supplies familiarisation.
  • Experience with flow, temperature, and pressure instrumentation.
  • ATEX Qualification (ExF, Ex11).
