Recycling Technologies anchor employer of the Swindon & Wiltshire Institute of Technology

Recycling Technologies Ltd (‘Recycling Technologies’), an innovative plastic recycling technology provider, listed as one of the top 50 companies to work for in the south-west, announces the launch of the Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology (IoT) in partnership with New College Swindon, other academic partners, and local employers. In September 2019, the Department of Education announced that the Swindon and Wiltshire IoT had been selected as one of 12 new employer-led, higher level technical education centres. Courses at the IoT will officially start from September 2021.
The IoT is a region-wide collaboration project between employer anchor partners and stakeholders will provide an opportunity to achieve a higher education qualification, degree level apprenticeships and provide training which will play an important role in developing and attracting new business opportunities. Education and training which will easily translate into local employment opportunities in advanced manufacturing, infrastructure, and digital industries will be offered as part of this collaboration. The focus on the delivery of STEM-related (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects for early-stage career training and for upskilling and retraining people in the region will foster local economic growth.
Some of the anchor employers involved in the Swindon and Wilshire IoT, alongside Recycling Technologies, are the BMW Group and Nationwide Building Society.
Recycling Technologies, as one of the anchor partners, will participate in the IoT’s steering committee and help guide key decisions. The company will contribute to the curriculum to ensure it is relevant and vocational to equip students with the skills to join technology led engineering businesses. It will also assist the training of students for employment in green technology, environmental and sustainability activities, and the circular economy.

In 2020 we hired 7 apprentices from Honda following the announcement of the Honda site closure. Since then, we have worked closely with New College Swindon to provide these apprentices with valuable academic qualifications coupled with practical business experience. The creation of a local IoT will only allow us to work more closely with New College Swindon to foster future growth and opportunities for local employment and accessible higher education.
